Merrill "Stubby" Stubing Sr., played by Phil Silvers, is Captain Merril Stubing's father in the Love Boat series.
He falls in love with the ship's gally cook, P. J Muldoon, played by Judy Canova, and eventually proposes to her. His son Merrill doesn't like the sound of this at first but eventually warms up to the idea of it and is happy for his father and P.J even calling her Mom.
